Local issues - our focus
The team are working on these issues (amongst others) - let us know what else we can focus on!
Planning and Transportation
This department within the City Corporation manages the built environment, including planning delivery, utilities infrastructure, operations and transport within the Square Mile. It is responsible for creating places which are truly accessible, inclusive and, importantly, provides the setting for the engine of the UK economy to thrive in.

Bishopsgate Ward has seen a lot of examples of retrofit schemes (e.g. 100 Liverpool St), as well as sustainable new developments (e.g. 55 Old Broad St) getting approved in recent years. There are also exciting plans for Liverpool Street Station coming through the planning pipeline, which will deliver step free access and an improved station concourse, to make it fit for purpose as the UK’s busiest railway station, servicing over 80m passengers per annum.
Open Spaces
The City of London Corporation plays a crucial role in managing and maintaining open and green spaces across London. Beyond the Square Mile, it oversees over 11,000 acres of public parks, heaths, and commons, including iconic sites such as Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest, and Burnham Beeches.
The Corporation ensures these areas are preserved for public enjoyment, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability. It invests in conservation, community engagement, and educational programmes, promoting the health and well-being of London’s residents and visitors.
By balancing public access with environmental protection, the Corporation contributes significantly to London's green infrastructure, providing essential spaces for recreation, relaxation, and nature within the urban environment.
London as a Global Powerhouse
The City of London Corporation promotes London as a global powerhouse through various initiatives. It supports financial and professional services, facilitating business growth and innovation. The Corporation actively engages in international trade missions, forging global partnerships and attracting foreign investment. It also advocates for favorable regulations and policies that enhance London’s competitiveness. Additionally, the Corporation invests in infrastructure, cultural projects, and green finance, showcasing London as a leader in sustainable development. By hosting global conferences and events, it reinforces London’s reputation as a world-leading financial center and a hub for global commerce.
Secure and Safe Streets
The City of London Police is a specialised law enforcement body responsible for maintaining security within the Square Mile, London's financial district. Unlike the Metropolitan Police, which covers Greater London, the City of London Police operates exclusively within this area, focusing on economic crime, cybercrime, and counter-terrorism, given the district's global financial importance.
The force works closely with the City of London Corporation, the governing body of the Square Mile, to ensure the safety and security of residents, workers and visitors. This collaboration includes strategic planning for public safety, managing events, and providing a visible police presence.
The Corporation supports the police with resources and policy frameworks that align with the unique needs of the financial district. Together, they aim to create a secure environment that fosters business growth while ensuring public safety, making the Square Mile one of the safest and most secure areas in London.
