Sergeant Emma Anckorn
Sergeant, City of London Police
Operation Reframe is a City of London Police initiative focused on improving safety in the nighttime economy, with a strong emphasis on tackling violence against women and girls. Sergeant Emma Ankorn, the licensing sergeant, oversees this operation alongside her broader responsibilities for managing licensed premises across the city. Operation Reframe has been running successfully for three years, adapting its approach each month to address different themes, such as national stalking awareness, romance scams around Valentine’s Day, and issues raised by local residents and workers.
A key component of the operation involves collaboration with the British Transport Police, particularly around Liverpool Street Station, a major transport hub. Joint efforts include passive drug searches and the establishment of a safe haven—a designated area where people, especially those who feel vulnerable or have missed their train, can seek assistance. The initiative also extends to other areas of the city, engaging with different business improvement districts (BIDs) to tailor efforts to local safety concerns.
Sergeant Ankorn highlighted key safety concerns for those working late in the city, such as unlicensed taxis, phone theft, and general security when commuting home. She advised workers to verify taxis before getting in, use taxi marshals available at Liverpool Street Station on weekends, and keep phones secure to avoid snatch thefts. Additionally, she encouraged people to report areas where they feel unsafe so that police can take steps such as increasing lighting or adjusting patrols. Operation Reframe continues to evolve, incorporating feedback from the community to enhance public safety in the City of London.
